Charlotte’s Web
by Shannon Finnegan after a Woodland Quiet Retreat
Upon arriving at Water & Wood Retreat, I immediately felt peace, loving energy, and openness. My heart and mind joined the energy to be open to what the Universe had to show and tell me. And so it began…the silence. My silence within God’s silence. An merging of love. Waking the first morning, to my delight, was a warm, cozy fire that created a beautiful space for meditation, accompanied by the occasional greeting from a chicken and a song from a bird sitting on the sill. Then, walking the path that others had formed among the many trees with arms outstretched, welcoming me with the waving of their leaves, I came upon a stem hanging in the air.
It looked as if I was seeing the impossible…a stem hanging by itself. As I stared and looked at it from all sides, ah, yes, it was being held. It was being held by the wonder of a thin strand of web coming down from a tree, which could only be illuminated by God’s light. The only way I was shown the web was to look at it from an angle where I saw God’s Light. I realized this single strand showed the strength, beauty, and Light of God Itself. Throughout my stay during this loving retreat, God introduced himself to me through seeing many webs in the sunlight, the dance of the leaves, the play of the kittens, the welcome of the chickens, and even the miracle of the laying of the eggs.
And what happened? I fell in love with God! I was awed, my heart beat with a different rhythm, and my soul was at peace and yet more alive.
